What Do We Do?
Affirmation provides a variety of opportunities for service, fun, friendship, personal enrichment, and spiritual growth. We work together to help remove barriers to acceptance and promote dignity and respect for sexual minorities, focusing on issues relevant to those from a Mormon background.
Types of Activities:
- Annual Conferences
Held in the U.S., our weekend conferences offer us a chance to meet
as an entire organization. Here we renew friendships, learn from interesting
speakers and workshops, participate in community events and outings,
laugh together at banquets, shows and parties, and cry together at devotionals
and AIDS memorials. It can be a life-changing experience. Learn more about our most recent & next conferences
- Cornerstones
These smaller "retreats" are held throughout the U.S. and (so far) once
in Europe. They are typically used to build local chapters, plan the
future of our organization, and to simply enjoy being together. See report about a Cornerstone
- Local Chapter Meetings
Affirmation chapter meetings may include social educational or spiritual
aspects, depending on what each chapter feels would best serve its member's
needs. Examples include: open discussions, guest speakers, potluck socials,
parties, scripture study and outings. See where local chapters are organized
- Gamofites (Gay Mormon Fathers)
This independent, but closely affiliated organization is designed for
fathers united in the joy of being both gay and associated with Mormons.
Since January 1992, the group has planned and executed semiannual retreats
where, in informal group conversation, participants can respond to the
collective needs of members. Gamofites website
- Q-Saints
Not a meeting in the traditional sense, this active electronic mailing
list brings many of us together for interesting online discussions on
gay Mormon issues. Q-Saints site
