Same-Sex Couples Sought for Equal in Every State Day
Thinking About Getting Married?
July, 2001
Equal In Every State is a national campaign to educate about the freedom to marry, and why same-sex couples and their families need and deserve the protections offered through civil marriage. Following community education campaigns, couples living in various cities in all 50 states will have individual wedding ceremonies on Saturday, April 27th 2002 (an alternative day is Sunday, April 28th for certain religious faiths.) We're looking for couples to represent their city, small or large, as long as it’s in the US. There is no limit on the number of couples that can participate on any city, state or national level.
The participating couples will educate their specific communities by sharing their personal stories, engaging others to endorse the freedom to marry for same-sex couples, and celebrating their marriage with a wedding ceremony. Equal In Every State Day will be broadcast on the web, radio and television. The media will be encouraged to focus on the couples stories, wedding day events and the couples proactive approach to involving their community to support the Marriage Resolution (a statement of support for same-sex couples created by Lambda Legal Defense and other advocacy organizations.)
If you are interested in participating in Equal In Every State Day on Saturday, April 27th 2002 by being one of the couples, helping out with the cause or just for more information head to: http://www.EQUALSTATES.org.
Founded in 2001 by Simon Cantlon and Shane Snipes, Equal In Every States’ mission is to obtain equality for same-sex couples to marry and be recognized at the local, state, and national level.
