Group for Young Gay Mormons Organized in Colorado

A new group for gay Mormon youth has just been launched in Denver. The group supports drug, tobacco, and alcohol-free gatherings for gay youth aged 18 to 30. It is not required to be active in the LDS Church to participate.

“I saw how successful both the Salt Lake and Northern California groups had been,” says Micah, the new group coordinator, “so I figured it was time for something in Colorado. Denver, specifically, has had a very supportive GLBT community as a whole, but I found it to suffer somewhat in the aspects of youth, and especially LDS people, mainly because the ‘main’ community doesn't understand what it's like from a LDS kid's perspective.”

“This is a great alternative to the bars, clubs and raves,” says Adyson, organizer of a gay LDS youth group in Northern California. “It’s a place for people who have had, do have, or will have these shared experiences of being gay and LDS.”

This is the third group for gay Mormon youth organized in the last year. Gay LDS Youth meets weekly in the Salt Lake City area, and a similar group functions in Northern California.
