Professor No Longer Gives Scientific Evidence--He Only “Claims” It

March 31, 2004

By Hugo Salinas

Is the BYU NewsNet story on biological evidence for homosexuality giving Brigham Young University a headache? Apparently it is, as the BYU administration took the extraordinary step of changing the headline for the story.

In the story, originally entitled, "Professor gives scientific evidence of homosexuality," BYU Professor William Bradshaw gave good scientific evidence for biological factors that cause homosexuality.

But now the BYU professor no longer "gives" such evidence. The online version of the story has been changed, and the headline reads, "Professor CLAIMS scientific evidence of homosexuality."

LDS leaders insist that homosexuality is not genetically determined. In 1995, James E. Faust of the First Presidency said that if homosexuality were inherited, this "would frustrate the whole plan of mortal happiness" (Ensign, September 1995, p. 5).
