Gay and lesbian Mormons took an active role during the Annual PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) Conference held in Salt Lake City on October 21-24. Hundreds participated in a rally against Amendment 3 held at the Rose Wagner Theater & Arts Performing Center on October 21. One of the speakers at the rally was Kate Kendell, legal director at the National Center for Lesbian Rights. Kate Kendell grew up Mormon in Utah and received her J.D. degree from the University of Utah College of Law in 1988.

A coalition of gay and lesbian Mormons staffed during the conference, which was attended by some 500 PFLAG members from across the U.S. and Mexico. The coalition staffing the table included representatives from Affirmation: Gay & Lesbian Mormons, Reconciliation, and other groups. Affirmation representatives included Alyson Bolles, from Oregon, and Duane Jennings, from Utah.

This was the first time the PFLAG conference was held in Utah, and it received wide media attention.
