Affirmation Holds First Meeting in Bolívar, Venezuela
Prepared by José, coordinator of Afirmación Bolíva
August 2005
The first Affirmation meeting in Venezuela took place July 30, 2005, at 5:45 pm. We started by singing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." I gave the opening prayer. We had a spiritual thought based on talks by Elder M. Russell Ballard and Sister Kathleen H. Hughes. We passed around copies of Affirmation's bylaws, as indicated in the guidelines. We all had a chance to express our opinions and concerns.
We decided that we will meet every other week. We felt everything said and done was in tune with the Spirit. There was a spirit of reverence and respect from everyone.
We had a closing prayer and then we had the social part. We ended up in a mall in Puerto Ordaz, and the social part extended til after midnight. We had a chance to share our thoughts, to get to know each other better, and to strengthen our friendship.
The next meeting will be on August 14, and we expect some 15 friends and members to attend.
Thanks to all of those who supported this idea of starting in Bolivar. Thanks to Miguel & Hugo for their counsel and encouragement.
