Dustin Lance Black, a gay man who comes from a Mormon background, was featured in the June 6 issue of The Advocate in a story about the HBO's new series on polygamy, Big Love, which he co-writes.

In the interview Black says that polygamy is a part of the history Mormons would rather not have publicized. According to Black, the other writers on the show "have no idea how much [Mormons] don't want to talk about this."

What is it like being the only Mormon on the Big Love staff? "I find myself defending the church as much as giving out information," said Black.

"Being gay and homosexuality is in part of everybody's world, Black adds. "It exists in Utah, it exists in fundamentalist Mormon culture, it exists in [mainstream] Mormon culture, and God know it existed for me in Mormon culture."
