The last three years have been filled with an amazing blend of excitement, aggravation, triumph, and even some tragedy. Being executive director has been both more difficult than I imagined and yet more rewarding than I had hoped. The greatest job benefit has been the chance to better know more people outside of my own chapter. I thought three years would be a long time to be executive director, but I find that I am still learning new things and Heavenly Father knows that there is much I had promised to do that is yet to be accomplished. Therefore, I would like to announce my candidacy for another term as executive director.
I am humbled to announce that both of my current assistant directors,
Alyson Bolles and James Morris, are willing and eager to continue
in their current positions for another year, as is our outstanding
treasurer Bruce Maughan. In addition, Hugo Salinas will continue as
Affinity editor and webmaster. The last few years have been
a period of great stability in the Affirmation leadership, and I hope
to take advantage of this to prepare Affirmation for the inevitable
evolution and changes that come to any organization.
I am also extremely excited at the prospect of presiding over the
2007 Conference in my hometown of Washington, DC. Being Chairman of
the 2000 Conference “We, the Peculiar People” held in
Washington, DC was my first ever national level Affirmation position.
Hosting "“A More Perfect Union” in 2007 is a testament to the
continued dedication of the Washington, DC Affirmation Chapter and
the on-going need for Affirmation as gays and lesbians strive to claim
their rightful place in our society. I am not opposed in my candidacy
this year, but I ask for your sustaining vote when you receive your
ballots and I look forward to another successful year for Affirmation.
