Short Film Explores Transgender Issues
November 2006
The Gender Advocacy Board (Utah Gab) is proud to present its first film "Home Is Where The Heart Is" sponsored in part by The Human Rights Education Center of Utah (HREC). It is a film discussion about the transgender community and the courage and joy they feel by being their true authentic selves.
K. J. Jackson Prince is a returned missionary, former Sandy City councilman, and transgender activist. The film was inspired by one of her children, who wanted to know more about transgenderism. Prince, who underwent surgery to become a woman two years ago and took on a female persona a year before that, said transgenderism isn't a sexual preference and isn't a disorder.
A second film will then be shown, "Transamerica", starring Felicity Huffman who portrays a transsexual named Bree, who gets the shock of her life when a week before her final sex reassignment surgery discovers a son she didn't know she had. It is filled with deep emotions of laughter and heartache and is well worth seeing. Huffman won several awards (and an Oscar nomination) for her role.
