Sunstone Symposium to Include Gay-related Sessions

A number of sessions in the 2007 Sunstone symposium will deal with gay issues. The symposium will be held August 8-11 at the Sheraton City Centre Hotel in Salt Lake City.

August 9

Session #134: Author Meets Critics: A Panel on Homosexual Saints: The Community of Christ Experience, edited by William D. Russell.

Session #174: BYU, Spiritual Violence, and LGBT Activism.

Session #191: Musical Performance by The Saliva Sisters of the song “Here I Am with President Romney.” Note: This song is introductory to the panel “Mormonism's Mitt Moment.”

August 10

Session #275: Stigmatized No More: Queer-Positive Discourse in the Heart of Zion.

August 11

Session #316: What Would Henry James Say? Readings from a Novel in Progress.

Session #336: Stories of Service--of Serving Lives and Giving Hope, Looking Back over Thirty Years of Affirmation: Gay and Lesbian Mormons, and to the Next Thirty Years.

Session #356: Homosexuality and the Mormon Ethic of Body-Spirit Integrity.

Session #376: The Religious-Homosexual Identity Dialectic: A Developmental Approach.

The symposium is based on the principles of an “open forum” and the trust that both the cause of truth and the society of the Saints are best served by free and open exploration and discussion. Students with valid I.D. may attend the sessions for free.
