The August 14 issue of The Advocate includes an interview with Mormon actor Aaron Eckhart, and one of the questions focuses on his LDS background. Eckhart, who identifies as straight, served an LDS mission in France and Switzerland and graduated from BYU in 1994.

“How did your Mormon upbringing affect your views on homosexuality?” Advocate's Brandon Voss asked Eckhart.

“It was something that really wasn't talked about,” replied the Golden Globe-nominated actor. "It just wasn't something I even thought about, because I wasn't really around it until I came to New York City and lived in Chelsea.”

“Now I have a lot of gay friends,” Eckhart added. “At the end of the day, I pick my own views and beliefs.”
