Equality Group Invites Mormons to Resign Their Membership over Proposition 8
November 2008
In the aftermath of Proposition 8, Signing for Something, an LDS group which supports marriage equality, is inviting Mormons to resign their membership from the LDS Church. Signing for Something is asking members to state in their letter that their resignation is motivated by the Church’s stance against marriage equality.
Signing for Something is also asking members to fill out a simple form to keep tabs of how many people are resigning. Names and email addresses will not be made public, and the filling out of the online form does not constitute an official resignation.
According to organizer Andrew Callahan, in about two days the group has identified 140 people who have resigned their membership.
Affirmation has also posted information on the resignation process at http://www.affirmation.org/learning/name_removal.shtml.
