The Utah Pride Interfaith Coalition and Equality Utah are sponsoring a Common Ground Interfaith Service in the State Capitol Rotunda, at 12 noon, Wednesday, February 18, 2009. The event, open to the public, is "an opportunity for state legislators, meeting on capitol hill, to take a break and come to a sacred place to worship together on Common Ground," said Russ Baker-Gorringe, chair of the Utah Pride Interfaith Coalition.
The event is open to the public, and people of all faiths are welcome. "While we are all unique, we have more in common than we have differences," said Bill and Marge Bradshaw of LDS Family Fellowship. "As an interfaith community, we come together on common ground from many diverse faiths and traditions to proclaim we are all part of the human family, and we all hold to sacred, we find common truths in our journey through the human condition."
"One thing we all share on Common Ground is love," explained Maureen Duffy-Boose, member of the Utah Pride Interfaith Coalition. "Love is the ground in which we can all be securely rooted and grow strong. Love means caring as much about the well-being of another as you do for your own well-being. Love means knowing that when another person is oppressed, your own freedom is thereby made less."
Baker-Gorringe hopes residents of Utah will join and take part with our legislatures, by coming to a sacred place a place of Common Ground.
