“Facing East”

Florida Atlantic University Students to Perform Reading of “Facing East”
April 15 at 7:00 PM

April 2010

Florida Atlantic University gay student group, Lambda United, will perform a public reading of Facing East for their 2010 “Break the Silence” event. The reading of the play will mark the end of FAU’s commemoration of National Day of Silence, where participating students pledge to be “silent in protest” over the damage that is done, and violence that occurs, when people refuse to talk about issues surrounding gay and lesbian students.

The production is free, and open to the general public. It will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 15th, in Room SO-250 of the Social Sciences Building at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton Campus.

Written by LDS author Carol Lynn Pearson, Facing East explores how the suicide of a gay young man affects his LDS family. Recently Facing East was honored by the Association for Mormon Letters as the best play of 2007, “for its compassion, its even-handed wisdom and its tragic power.”
