Carmen & Jane -- September 17, 1994

Affirmation members Carmen Allen and Jane Carbiener had more than just the National Conference to be exhilarated about in Las Vegas last month they celebrated their wedding there, as well! Okay, it was really a "commitment ceremony," but don't tell that to the 40-plus "wedding guests" who watched Carmen--in a beautiful white wedding dress of her own making--and Jane--in an equally attractive white suit-exchange rings and vows of love.

Jane and Carmen, who attended their first Affirmation conference last year in San Diego, said they were so impressed with the love and friendship they found there, that they planned their commitment ceremony to coincide with this year's conference, so as many of their Affirmation family as possible could attend.

Since that San Diego conference, these women have been a cheerful presence in the gay/lesbian Mormon forum on America On-Line. They made many new "electronic" friends there, many of whom were also able to attend the ceremony.

What Carmen and Jane had not counted on however, was that the media would be interested in their wedding, as well! Salt Lake's Channel 4 (KTVX) sent a film crew to cover the conference weekend. While the wedding was not an official conference event, the news crew requested permission to film it. After a brief consultation, the brides-to-be consented, saying they had no reason to be ashamed of such a wonderful, spiritual and joyous event in their lives.
